Community Description
Short Description: Blountstown, the county seat of Calhoun County, is 50 miles from Tallahassee. The town is named for John Blount, the Seminole chief who acted as a guide for Andrew Jackson in his campaign against the Creek Indians in 1818 sits on a bluff overlooking the Apalachicola River. Blount had been given this Anglo-American name because it was said that he had many traits in common with William Blount of North Carolina, whom President Washington appointed superintendent of Indian affairs in 1790.
