Short Description: Monticello, the county seat and only city in the county, is 30 miles from Tallahassee and 150 miles from Jacksonville. The community was named for Thomas Jefferson's historic Virginia home. Established January 20, 1827, the tree-lined streets of Monticello are lined with antebellum homes.
Local attractions include Lake Miccosukee, Jefferson Country Club and the 1890 Opera House.
Community events include the Tour of Homes and the annual Jefferson County Watermelon Festival, celebrated the third week in June.
Nearby communities include Greenville (17 miles), Tallahassee (28.5 miles) and Woodville (31 miles).
