Claiming the highest average elevation of any town in Florida, the manager of the Clermont Improvement Company, A.F. Wrotniski, had been born in Clermont, France, established Clermont Florida in 1884. Clermont is known as "The Gem of the Hills," situated among 17 lakes and hills at an altitude of 105 feet above sea level.
