Community Description
Short Description: Leesburg, “the Lakefront City” was established in the 1870's, south of the Ocala National Forest and about one hour northeast of Orlando. Leesburg is located on top of the Lake Wales Ridge. The 100-acre Venetian Gardens located on the shores of Lake Harris has arched bridges across canals to live oak and magnolia-shaded islands.
A technology-advanced community, Leesburg offers 36-strand fiber with point-to-point data transmission Internet connectivity. At present Leesburg provides connectivity for the Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Lake-Sumter Community College and the Leesburg Business Park. The community is also the provider of service for the Lake County Schools, providing Internet access to 43 campuses.
Leesburg is a well-balanced central Florida community between a commercial and residential population.
The regional theater company, The Melon Patch Players, puts on six shows each year, including lavish musicals, comedies, and dramas. The Lake-Sumter Community College Performing Arts Series brings entertainment to the Paul P. Williams Fine Arts Center, located on campus.
