Community Description
Short Description: Bronson, the county seat of Levy County, is 20 southwest of Gainesville and 90 miles southwest of Jacksonville. The original county 1860 seat was Levyville, but was not on the Florida railroad. Less than 10 years later in 1871, a new woodframe courthouse was built in Bronson and the county seat was moved. The town was at first called Chunky Pond through a mistaken translation of an Indian word meaning, "dance." The community is located near several natural springs and more than 20 nature-based recreational sites.
