Community Description
Short Description: Greenville is 40 miles from Tallahassee and 135 miles from Jacksonville. Originally known as Sandy Ford, when the railroad came through from Jacksonville to Pensacola the town became known as Station Five as it was the fifth stop on the line from Jacksonville.
When the War Between the States broke out, the Confederate commissary asked that a proper name be given to the town. The town became Greenville, named after one of the early resident's hometown in South Carolina.
Greenville is best known as being the childhood home of Rhythm and Blues icon, Ray Charles.
Local attractions include Haffye Hays Park with its Children's Park, picnic facilities and a walking track encircling the lake. The Spanish missions of San Miguel de Asylo and San Mateo de Tolapato were both located near the area.
Community events include Country Christmas held each December.
