Community Description
Short Description: Located along US-441, McIntosh is 16 miles from Gainesville and 71 miles from Jacksonville. Orange Lake borders the town on the east. Carved from an old sea island cotton plantation, the town was in its prime during the late 1800s after the construction of the Florida Southern Railroad in 1881.
Community events include the annual 1890's Days Festival. Local attraction include the 68 pre-1940 structures listed on the National Registry of Historic Places including the Methodist Church moved on logs and mules from Boardman in 1895 and Van Ness Park.
Nearby communities include Reddick (5.5 miles), Micanopy (5.5 miles), Hawthorne (13.5 miles), East Williston (14.5 miles), Williston (16 miles), Gainesville (17 miles), Ocala (19 miles) and Archer (21.5 miles).
