Community Description
Short Description: Located between Tallahassee & Pensacola, Chipley, the county seat of Washington County, was originally called Orange. The community was renamed for Colonel W.D. Chipley, the railroad president who helped build the railroad across northern Florida. The town grew in the late 19th century serving as a watering station for steam locomotives.
Local attractions include a1932 movie house complete with balcony along with an antique store on Railroad Avenue and the state's highest waterfall, a cascading 67 feet in Falling Water State Park.
Community events include the Panhandle Watermelon Festival on the last Saturday in June and the Day in the Park held in May.
