Community Description
Short Description: Stuart, the county seat of Martin County is an hour from West Palm International Airport and downtown West Palm Beach. Known as the Sailfish Capital of the World, near the St. Lucie and Indian Rivers.
Formerly known as Potsdam, the name change came after the Florida East Coast Railroad came to the community. Stuart is named for either Samuel C. Stuart, the first telegraph operator and station agent or for Homer Hine Stuart, Jr., an early settler and local businessman.
Local attractions include the historic downtown, the old Martin County Courthouse, the Stuart Feed Store and the Rivewalk.
Nearby communities include Rio (2 miles), Palm City (3 miles), North River Shores (2 miles), Jensen Beach (3 miles), Sewall's Point (3 miles), Ocean Breeze Park (3.5 miles), Port Salerno (5 miles), Hutchinson Island South (6.5 miles) and Port St. Lucie (9.5 miles).
