Lakeland Inquiry:
| Q. | I'm having difficulty determining if I am paying the correct property taxes or rate on my home. I purchased it for $131,000 in 2004 and filed for the homestead exemption of $25,000.
What is Mulberry's tax rate and what amount should I be paying on $105,000?
What tax rate does Tampa have? Thank you. | | A. | The tax rate for the City of Mulberry is approximately 8.5 mills for every thousand dollars of valuation, over the first $25,000 of property valuation, which is exempt from taxation for a Florida "homestead" property. For $105,000 in valuation this could be estimated to be: $105 x 8.5= $892.50. (Remember this is only city tax rates. You will need to add the school district , the county and any other local taxes which might be due to get an accurate total tax picture). The tax rate for Tampa is approximately 6.54 mills per $1,000 of valuation. Hope this is helpful.
| | Q. | Was Lakeland hit very hard by hurricane Jeanne ? | | A. | Lakeland and all of Polk County were hit hard by Charley which came through in August, Frances who entered on the Labor Day weekend and finally by Hurricane Jeanne in late September. Ironically, Hurricane Jeanne may have topped Hurricane Charley as the most costly natural disaster to hit Polk County. A survey of 30 percent of the county showed that 12,000 structures sustained damage in Jeanne. Numerous structures in Lakeland still have not been inspected.
