Broward County Inquiry:

Q.I recently relocated to Hollywood and am searching for a garden center or a place where I can purchase some vegetable plants as well as house plants & decorative garden items. Anything close by?
A.
There are numerous Farmer's Markets to find knowledgeable locals on what to plant and buy locally such as Batten's Farm, 5151 SW 64th Ave and Fresh Green Market 4271 Davie Road, both in Davie. The Hollywood Greyhound Flea Market at The Race Track, 831 N. Federal Hwy in Hollywood. The Outdoor Urban Gourmet Market, S.E. 12th Avenue and Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale and The Festival Marketplace, 2900 W. Sample Road in Pompano Beach. But first you might call the Broward County Cooperative Extension Service in Davie, 954.370.3725 for more local ideas.

Q.Last year I was in Fort Lauderdale and left on December 5th to come home and someone told me that they were having a Holiday Parade that week. This year I am coming to Fort Lauderdale from December 5 to December 10 and was wondering when the Holiday Parade will be this year. Thank you for any help. Marion
A.

A Holiday in Fort Lauderdale and the neighboring communities have a great number of excellent events for that time of year. You should be able to catch a few during your visit. Most of the dates have not been posted....but go ahead and contact their coordinators for updates...at 954.828.5363 or by email.

Q.Where on the web, can I find the most up to date directory information on Florida marinas?
A.One of the best sources around is the Florida's Clean Marinas & Boatyards Database updated and produced by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Marine Industries Association of Florida. Then different parts of Florida also track Marinas in their area such as the: Marine Industries of South Florida, Southwest Florida Marine Industries Association, Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, Northwest Florida Marine Industries Association and the Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast among others.
Q.Hi, My wife and I are interested in spending a month in your city. We've been in your city quite a few times and really enjoyed our stay. Our budget is rather limited, and that is why we are looking in a trailer park, to rent a place
for our stay. Is it possible to get a list of those parks somewhere? Thanking you for your time. Claude in Canada.
A.
The following Mobile Home Parks in Dania Beach should give you a good start in your search for a temporary home while in Broward County:
  • Adirondack Trailer Park, 922 S Federal Hwy, Dania Beach (954.922.6548)
  • Ocean Waterway Mobile Home Park, 1500 Griffin Rd, Dania Beach, (954.922.0984)
  • Weiner's Mobile Park & Sales, 801 E Dania Beach Blvd, Dania Beach, (954.929.6731)

Q.Can you tell me if "Promenade in the Park" (or maybe it's called something else since it moved from Holiday Park in 05) will be occuring this year? My family and I attended for several years and I cant find any info on it ...
A.
The Promenade in the Park use to be held in collaboration with the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale (954.525.5500) when it was held in Holiday Park. This fun event has not been held recently and we could not identify an event that was used to replace it.

Q.What's the date of Dania beach nautical flea market
A.
The Dania Marine Flea Market with over 1,200 marine recreation vendors is being held March 30 to April 2, 2006 at the Dolphin Stadium (formerly Pro Player Stadium) in Miami. For more information contact them at 800.275.2260 or by Email.

Q.how to get to the rodeo from downtown miami. need immediately. thank you
A.To get to the Five Star Rodeo in Davie, just take I-95 directly north until you get to Griffin Road in Dania. There you turn west (left) on Griffin Road until you get to Davie Road (SW 64th Ave) and turn north (right) to the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds on the corner of Davie Road and Orange Drive at 4271 Davie Road.
Q.I'm looking for a small community (about a block or two) in south Broward County where pretty much every house has Christmas/ Holiday lights. There must be at least 40-50 houses with "heavy lighting". Can somebody advise me where it is? Thank you
A.With the spectacular two-mile Holiday Fantasy of Lights in Coconut Creek's Tradewinds Park cancelled this year due to Wilma, it is truly a blessing to see the careful time and attention local homes undertake in Broward County to display their Christmas and Holiday spirit. Their spirited hard work is appreciated by all of us. There are several South Broward communities that have small enclaves that have worked hard this season. They include areas of Lighthouse Point, Weston, Plantation and Margate. But special viewing should be done in Coral Springs where several communities including Eastridge Village and the Coventry section have done a very good job.
Q.I am recently relocated to Sunrise. Let me know the Roman Church available in and around Sunrise?
A.All Saints Catholic Church is located at 10900 West Oakland Park Boulevard in Sunrise and St. Bernard Catholic Church can be found at 8279 Sunset Strip also in town.
Q.I would like to know if there is a public parking facility near 2601 N. palm aire Dr. in pompano Beach,fl. that will house my car for 2 weeks?  Please email me the name of the facilities and phone numbers, or tell me how to get this info.  Thank you
A.

Palm Aire Drive (N. and S.) meander around the Palm Aire Resort and Country Club (954.97.6225) and they might be the first place I visit for parking in the area. If you are not using the resort services, there is some valet parking available on Palm Aire Drive South (This is the phone number we have in our database: 954.829.4529). To find it, just circle around Palm Aire off of S. Powerline Rd (SR-845) and you will find Palm Aire Drive and the Valet Parking on the south end. If you willing to walk, there are several large businesses that might permit you to use their parking facilities to park between W McNab Road and Palm Aire, but the walking route is not the easiest. It is worth a contact;  Bryan Ashley Furniture is probably the closest (Email, 954.351.1199). East of Palm Aire across S. Powerline Rd (SR-845) is the Pompano Park Harness Race Track, so that might be another option to talk with about possible long-term parking.

Q.How can I find out about housing developers who offer affordable housing to government employees such as teachers in broward county?
A.The first step would be to contact the Broward County Housing Authority (BCHA) in Lauderhill at 954.739.1114. The BCHA primary purpose is to provide housing to low and low-to-moderate income residents of Broward County through public housing programs. They also are a good source for Broward County resources and programs for which you might benefit.
Q.My husband and I would love to live in Florida for 90 days of the year. As we are both from a small Island (in Great Britain) where everything is close at hand lovely walks along the prominade, the beaches, cycle rides etc. We are both 57 years old are very active and thinking of somewhere where it would be quite safe to walk out at night. Thanks Frankie (Mrs)
A.The first place that comes to mind is Hollywood, Florida in Broward County, near Fort Lauderdale. The long stretches of Broadwalk are quite relaxing, there are many people with similar interests spending winters there and I think you would find it intriguing. If you want to look on the west side of Florida, you might consider Sarasota, Naples or in the Florida panhandle, Destin. They all offer unique perspectives along Florida's lovely coastlines.
Q.What are the four Roman Catholic churches closest to the following address: 480 East McNab Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33060 Many thanks!!
A.

Q.I live in New York at the moment but I'll be moving to Fort Lauderdale at the end of the month of June,I'll be looking to rent an apartment to live with my wife and my two joungest sons.
In the near future I would like to buy a house and I would like to know if there are any organizations like SONYMA,HUD etc. That perhaps can give some help in realizing my dream.
I will apreciate any information you can provide me with.
In advance thank you very much.

Q.We are coming to your city Dec. 5th. Staying at Villas by the Sea. My question is what is the nearest Roman Catholic Church, and the nearest golf course. Thank you. Dan Whitaker
A.You should enjoy your stay at Villas By The Sea located at 4456 El Mar Drive in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.  It is good to know you have your priorities of church and golf in the same thought. I often spend time in prayer on the golf course. You have four Catholic Churches nearby. All Saints Catholic Church 10900 W Oakland Park Blvd; 954.742.2666 and St. Pius X Catholic Church 2511 N Ocean Blvd; 954.564.1763 both inFort Lauderdale to the south. To the North is Assumption Catholic Church 2001 S Ocean Blvd; 954.941.7647 and St Coleman''s Catholic Church, 1200 S Federal Hwy; 954.942.3533 in Pompano Beach. For golf the 18-hole Public, Par 58 American Golfers Club 3850 N Federal Hwy; 954.564.8760 of Fort Lauderdale is less than 2 miles away.
