Short Description: Starke, the county seat of Bradford County is 25 miles north of Gainesville and 40 miles south of Jacksonville. Located on US-301, the community was named either after former Florida Gov. Starke Perry or for Thomas Starke, a slaveholder who once owned much land around the area.
Local attractions include Camp Blanding.
Nearby communities include Hampton (6 miles), Lawtey (7.5 miles), Waldo (11.5 miles), Keystone Heights (12 miles), Brooker (16 miles), Middleburg (16 miles), Lake Butler (17 miles) and Penney Farms (20.5 miles).

| Q. | I am trying to find information on The SHIP Program for Bradford County FL, can you email and provide me this information!! | | A. | The Florida Division of Historical Resources (850.245.6300) offers State Historic Preservation (SHP) along with museum grants and special category grants, Bradford County has two recent grants in 2006, $8,116 for the Historic Bradford County Bank Building in Starke and $20,000 for a City of Starke Historic Survey. In addition, the committee recommended $10,000 in Historic Preservation Small Matching Grants-In-Aid in 2007 for the Starke Main Street Program.

Also i was wondering if there was any fees to get in. | | A. | Since Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, Starke has set Trick or Treat Night for Saturday, October 30. The 10th Annual Great Pumpkin Escape will be held on the streets of downtown in Starke.
The festival is free from 5-9 pm with candy, games, prizes, food, raffles and live music. There will be a pumpkin carving contest, a costume contest and of course a spooky haunted house.
