Community Description
Short Description: Thirty miles north of Orlando at 125 feet above sea level, Eustis is part of the upland country located on the shores of Lake Eustis in the Golden Triangle, which includes Mount Dora and Tavares.
The city is wrapped around the northeast corner of Lake Eustis, and the historic downtown "Village". Ferran Park in downtown Eustis has a 1,500-foot walkway with a suspended walk over Lake Eustis. The park features also include an Olympic pool, two piers, 20 boat slips and the historic Alice McClelland Band Shell built in 1926, located on a pier over Lake Eustis.
Settlers began arriving in Eustis around 1875. Early families in Eustis planted orange groves. Through the early years, the community had several names, such as Pendryville and Lake Eustis, before simply settling on Eustis. The lake had been named in 1823 after Col. Abraham Eustis, who was a commanding officer of the US Army in Florida in 1821.
