Community Description
Short Description: Chiefland, the "Gem of the Suwannee Valley", is centered between Tallahassee and Orlando, where Alternate 27 merges with US-19/98. The community is 40 miles from Gainesville and 100 miles from Jacksonville. The commercial hub of the Tri-County area, (Levy, Gilchrist & Dixie Counties), the community is located near the historical Suwannee River and Manatee Springs State Park. When hostilities in the Seminole War ceased in 1842, a Creek head chief with considerable land holdings and ruled over several minor chiefs farmed the land near Chiefland.
Community events include the Watermelon festival held the third Saturday in June. Nearby communities include Fanning Springs (8.5 miles), Trenton (9.5 miles), Bronson (15.5 miles), East Bronson (18.5 miles), Bell (18 miles) and Newberry (20.5 miles).
