Community Description
Short Description: Located on US-27, Williston is 20 miles from Gainesville or Ocala and 85 miles from Jacksonville. The community is in the northeast corner of Levy County and named for Jesse Mercer Willis, who settled there in 1853 when the community was part of Marion County. The Willis plantation was located in the present city limits of Williston. The first post office was established and located in one room of the Willis home. The first free school was built and the school's only teacher was paid $20 per month. In 1906, Williston had the largest school system in Levy County with 120 pupils.
Community events include the annual July 4th celebration, a peanut festival, an art show and a rodeo.
Nearby communities include Archer (11 miles), Bronson (13.5 miles), Micanopy (14 miles), McIntosh (16 miles) and Reddick (17 miles).
