Short Description: Largo is located at the intersection of Bay Drive and Seminole Blvd, in the heart of the Pinellas Peninsula. Largo is the closest city to the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport. Across the Howard Frankland Bridge (I-275) to Tampa, 5 miles south of Clearwater, Largo is the fourth largest community in the Tampa Bay region behind, Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater. The community is the childhood home of Broadway star, Terrence Mann.
Largo is the Spanish word for "big" or "long." Largo's motto, "City of Progress." Some believe city was named for nearby Lake Largo, a 50-acre body of water completed in the 1930s. Others believe Scottish immigrants who settled the northern part of the county named it for Largo, Scotland.
The City of Largo, a residential community, is the fourth largest community in the Tampa Bay region, behind Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater. The City has more than 950 employees and an operating budget of $120 million.
