Community Description
Short Description: Steinhatchee named in 1943, is location at the mouth of the Steinhatchee River. The name Steinhatchee is derived from the Muskogee "ak" (down), "isti" (man) and "hatchee" (creek) and means "dead man's creek." Along with neighboring Keaton Beach and Dekle Beach, the communities are traditional "Old Florida" river fishing villages with both fresh and saltwater fishing. Also scallop hunting, deer and boar hunting. Local camping facilities, motels and a marina and wooded trails can be found.
Located on the mouth of the Steinhatchee River, it offers a safe haven for boaters. Victorian period vacation homes can be rented. The resort offers all the amenities of the modern world in a natural setting. The town of Steinhatchee has a deep, well-marked channel. Marinas offer boater services and fishing tours. The town has several motels, cabins and restaurants.
