A portion of the southern area you mention is in the Marianna School District, so to be completely accurate contact the Jackson County School Board (850.482.1200)
| | Q. | Anytime my family heads to Panama City Beach, we come through Alford and on our way home it has become a tradition to stop at "Old Schoolhouse Antiques." We have not been to the beach in several years, but my husband I plan to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary there the weekend of Feb. 10. Is the antiques shop still there and still open? Could you possibly give me information on the hours? The people there are always so friendly and wonderful. We hope to visit them soon! Thanks. | | A. | We called the Old School Antiques (850.579.3915) and they know you will be coming through during your celebration. Their hours are 1 to 4 PM each day (1-5 PM Sunday) but closed on Monday. Congratulations from us at FloridaView and enjoy your visit at the Beach and your tradition in Alford.

| | Q. | Hi I Am Searching High And Low Trying To Find Some Family History My Grandfather Was Born In Cypress City, Jackson County Florida His Name Was John Dudley Pittman His Father Was William Calvin And Mother Carlene Cloud I Heard That Our Family Was Big In Agriculture That We Have A Road Named After Us The Pittmans And Still Have Family There Question Is- Is Cypress City Now Marianna? Is There A Road Named Pittman-Or With The Name In It I Thought I Saw Pittman Hill Road Somewhere? Is Jackson County Anywhere Near The Everglades? And If All This Information Is True How Can I Find A Brief History On My Family Without Going Into Genealogy? | | A. | Cypress is a small unincorporated community located between Marianna and Grand Ridge on State Highway 90 in Northwest Florida. If you look on a map, you will see Marianna west of Tallahassee in the Florida panhandle. While it can be argued, that most of Florida south of Orlando is part of the Florida Everglades, the Marianna area is quite different in topography and characteristics. Hopefully, someone reading this wlll be able to enlighten us about the Pittman history of the area. You also may want to contact the Jackson County office by email. Hint: One of the Jackson County Commissioners is J. Milton Pittman. The area is lovely and quite rich in "Old Florida" history. It is worthy of a visit, you would not be disappointed. If you do come for a visit stop by "Two Egg" while you are in the area.
| | Q. | I am trying to find some information on cottonsale. My Mom lives off of JR. drive and i went to get her before hurricane ivan. I live in Orlando and know of the destrution a hurrican can bring. I would like to know if there is much damange and if my mom can return to check out her trailer. I also have a brother who decided to stay but has not contacted any family. Is there any numbers that I can call to check the shelter. Any information would be recieved with much graditude. Thank you | | A. | It is good you went to get your mom before Hurricane Ivan. The 900 residents of Cottondale, did not take the brunt of the hurricane's damage, but was in the line of the storm's destructive front right quadrant. With several tornadoes spawned in the area and 400,000 northwest Floridians without power - if at all possible, you should keep your mom in the Orlando area for now.
The Central Panhandle Chapter of the Red Cross in Panama City should be able to assist you with shelter information on Jackson County at 850.763.6587 or email at spencers@knology.net
