I am scheduled to take a deposition on the base and want to know how far the Fort Walton Beach airport is from the Eglin Air Force Base. Also what hotels are located closed by? Thank you. | | A. | This depends if you are flying by commercial or private aircraft. The Okaloosa Regional Airport (850.651.7160) provides commercial air passenger service but no service for private aircraft and is located on Eglin Air Force Base. The Destin/Ft. Walton Beach Airport (850.837.6135) offers private aircraft service but does not for commercial airlines. It is located 7 miles from Eglin AFB. There are approximately 40 hotels/motels within 6 miles from Destin to Niceville. The closest would probably be the Ft. Walton Beach Travelodge, Ramada Plaza Beach Resort and Four Points By Sheraton all located 5 miles away on Miracle Strip Parkway in Fort Walton Beach. Iva hit last year. | | A. | The weather is great...the beaches are lovely... you should not encounter any problems....on your vacation. A number of the resorts and restaurants have not come back....but mostly they have become part of new planned developments. Enjoy your vacation...
| | Q. | I am thinking of taking a family vacation to the Destin area this August. It looks like there are some nice hotels in Niceville that are less expensive than those in Destin. How is the drive from Niceville to Destin? Are there places near the beach in Destin to park?

It is an easy drive acros the Mid-Bay Bridge into Destin and almost everywhere on this lovely barrier island is within walking distance. There is parking at the John C Beasley Recreation area and the Beaches of South Walton and Grayton Beach State Park are all nearby to the east. Heading west from Destin is Henderson Beach State Park and the Okaloosa Area Beach on Choctawhatchee Bay's Intracoastal Waterway. Have a fun and safe trip.

| | Q. | Can we fly from Ottawa Canada to an airport near Destin..and at what cost | | A. | You can fly from Ottawa, Canada (YOW) into the Okaloosa Regional Airport (VPS), situated on Eglin Air Force Base. The Okaloosa Regional Airport at Eglin AFB provides essential scheduled commercial air passenger service for a large proportion of the Northwest Florida area. Eglin AFB sits one 7-mile hop across the Mid-Bay Bridge spanning the Choctawhatchee Bay into Destin. (Delta, Continental, US Airways and Northwest all fly between these two cities and prices can be very reasonable – with flexibility – you could fly for as low as $260 roundtrip).
